Abstract
The authors maintain that the cultural and social "minorization" of Quebec Anglophones since the 1960s has provoked a set of collective responses among Montreal's English-speaking community, specifically among those that lived in the province prior to the Quiet Revolution. The authors argue that since the 1980 referendum, a discourse of civic identity has emerged among this group, built around a series of historical and cultural narratives that are deeply nostalgic in tone. The constitutive elements of this discourse are sketched out by the authors through an examination of the literary and historical works of Montreal writer and filmmaker William Weintraub.
