The Dunn Family Business, 1850-1914: The Trade in Square Timber at Quebec
|
Abstract |
A study of the development and decline of the square timber trade in Quebec City, as well as the mechanics of the commercial functions used to service the trade. The author studies the business established in 1850 by Timothy Hibbard Dunn (1816-1898). This family business became one of the principal merchant houses in Quebec and remained active until 1914. Focusing on this family, the author examines the causes and processes of the development and decline of the timber trade, as well as the mechanics of the commercial functions that were used to service it.
