Abstract |
A portrait of Montreal physician and McGill University professor Maude Abbott (1869–1940) was identified at least sixty-six years after it was painted by artist Mary Eastlake (1864-1951). Eastlake was Abbott's childhood friend. The authors recount its discovery, identify the sitter as Abbott, and compare this painting to the Eastlake painting of Abbott made familiar on a Canadian postage stamp issued in 2000.
