Abstract
A study of the relationship between knowledge and male/female interaction in the disciplines of physiotherapy and nutrition at McGill University. The authors point out the physiotherapy and nutrition are fields that are both overwhelmingly dominated by women, and were introduced at a time when women were just beginning to enter university. As well, both professions were defined as satellites of medicine at an early stage and, as such, constantly orbit a medical power in relation to which they must define their scope. Thua, they contend, the relation to medical knowledge and male/female relations are constant factors in both of these disciplines. By analyzing the physiotherapy and nutrition programs and institutional organization of McGill University, the authors outline the logic underlying the organization of knowledge in both these disciplines.
