Abstract
Montreal's Ogilvy's department store, founded in 1866 by James Angus Ogilvy, was once a high class store, but in 1985 it was converted into leasing arrangements with upscale retailers making Ogilvy's more like a landlord than a department store. The author outlines some of the unique characteristics of the former department store when it was known as the Grand Dame of St. Catherine Street.
