From Self-Discipline to Self-Realization: Emotion Management in the Montreal Race Riots of 1969 and 2008
|
Abstract |
The author examines the post-riot emotional discourse from two Montreal race riots, the Sir George Williams University riot in 1969 and the Montreal North riot following the police shooting of Fredy Villanueva in 2008. On February 10, 1969, students from the Caribbean and their supporters set fire to the computers on the ninth floor of Sir George Williams University's Hall Building following months of controversy and frustration over assertions that they suffered from unfair marking. Ninety-seven people were arrested.
