Title
Edward Pope, gardien de phare sur L'île d'Anticosti en 1840
Abstract
The British-born Edward Pope (1787-1871) and his wife Grace Date (1793-1873) immigrated to Quebec with their children in 1837. In 1840 Pope was appointed the lighthouse keeper at Pointe-Sud-Ouest (aka South-West Point) on Anticosti Island, a position he held until 1857. His son, Edward Jr. (1823-1893) and his wife Annie Julyan (1838-1928) then took over the lighthouse at Pointe-Sud-Ouest until 1893. Edward jr. is buried on the island, as are his parents; his wife Annie moved to the Montreal suburb of Westmount around 1900. The author outlines the genealogy of the Pope family.
