Abstract |
"Show Girls" celebrates Montreal's swinging Black jazz scene from the 1920s to the 1960s. Three women (Bernice Jordan, Tina Baines Brereton and Olga Spencer) who danced in the legendary Black clubs of the day share their memories of life in the middle of one of the world's hottest jazz spots. The three started dancing for a living as teens. Their stories are set against the backdrop of the political and social history of Montreal that made the city the Eastern seaboard's jazz and nightclub center for decades. The film mixes the women's memories with rarely seen footage of the era.
