The English Viewpoint on the Proposed Union of 1822 to Unite the Province of Lower and Upper Canada
|
Abstract |
The author focuses primarily on the views of the English-speaking population in Lower Canada and Upper Canada towards the proposed union of the two colonies in 1822. Whenever the English discussed the question of union, there emerged differing opinions on the merits of the undertaking. The author examines the views of the Lower Canadian English speakers in the seigneuries and those living in the townships.
