Abstract
An examination of the disbandment of the Scottish 78th Fraser's Highlanders, a British military regiment established in January 1757 for service in North America. After playing a key role in the Conquest of New France, the Highlanders were formally dissolved in Glasgow, Scotland, in December 1763. Prior to then and while still stationed in Quebec, 170 Highlanders accepted an offer of 14 days' subsistence pay in exchange for taking their leave in North America, thus sparing the British government the cost of shipping them home.
