Abstract
The author argues that the presence or absence of individuals in the cemeteries on Mount Royal in the latter half of the nineteenth century – French Canadian Catholics, Irish Catholics or British Protestants – depended on different commemorative practices influenced by religion, culture, gender, status, age and cemetery regulations.
