Abstract
The author discusses the impact of immigrants on Washington, D.C., Montreal and Hamamatsu, Japan. He argues that since the 1970s, this immigration has created “mélange cities” that experience both positive changes and tensions as a result of cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversification.
