Abstract |
Clifford Lincoln (b. 1928) chronicles some of the salient episodes of his two decades in active politics representing Montreal area ridings in both the Quebec National Assembly (where he served as Minister of Environment in the Bourassa Government) and the federal Parliament. He retired from politics in 2004. In 1989, along with two other Anglophone ministers, Lincoln resigned from Cabinet to protest the Bourassa government's language policy and its adoption of Bill 178, which invoked the notwithstanding clause of the Canadian Constitution in order to require French to be the dominant language on commercial signs in the province.
