Title
Montréal et l'eau. Une histoire environnementale
Abstract
An explanation of how Montreal's waterworks transformed the nature of citizenship and democracy in the city in the nineteenth century. The author argues that the waterworks systematically connected the public sphere to the private sphere in households throughout Montreal. The water distribution network embodied a new political power, traced the boundaries of the city's territory, and allowed for more rapid urbanization.
