Title
L’immigration italienne : Rapports familiaux chez les Italiens du Québec
Abstract
The author highlights the dynamic character of Italian immigrant families in Montreal to show how traditions and cultural values imported from Italy influenced their adaptation process. The author explains that Italian immigration to Quebec began with the temporary emigration of mostly male Italians who came to earn a living before either returning to Italy or bringing their families here. Permanent immigration gained momentum at the beginning of the twentieth century. He explains that from 1911 to 1921, the Italian population in Quebec changed and families were reunited. Despite the difficult conditions of the time, Italian families formed real micro-societies. Some ran boarding houses for Italians temporarily deprived of their families. The migration movement continued after the Second World War.
