Abstract
Montreal Light, Heat and Power Company was established in 1901 through the merger of Rodolphe Forget's Royal Electric Company and Herbert Samuel Holt's Montreal Gas Company. On April 14, 1944, the provincial Liberal government of Adélard Godbout passed Bill 17, creating the Commission hydroélectrique de Québec, or Hydro-Québec, and, under the same legislation, nationalized the privately-owned Montreal Light, Heat and Power Company.
