A biographical sketch of the Scottish-born George Stephen (1829-1921), who immigrated to Montreal in 1850. Stephen was the financial genius behind, and the first president of, the the Canadian Pacific Railway. He also served as president of the Bank of Montreal from 1876 to 1881.
