Abstract
The Forest Products Laboratories at McGill University, established at the turn of the twentieth century and funded by the federal government, employed timber physics and wood-related chemistry to break new ground in government-funded interdisciplinary research. The program brought together engineers, botanists and practitioners of other disciplines to employ science in the study of coniferous forests and timber use.
