Abstract
The Montreal Snow Shoe Club (M.S.S.C.) was founded in 1840 to promote the sport of snowshoe tramping among the city's English-speaking elite. The author describes and critically examines the evolution of the sport of snowshoeing as a sport within Montreal from the founding of the M.S.S.C. to 1890.
