Title
La réorganisation de l'assistance chez les catholiques montréalais : la Fédération des Oeuvres de charité canadienne-françaises et la Federation of Catholic Charities, 1930-1972
Abstract
The author explores the shift in leadership of these two linguistic Catholic charitable federations in the mid-twentieth century from volunteer elite women to businessmen, and from businessmen to male social workers. During this transition, these men brought about the bureaucratization, professionalization, secularization and statization of assistance. The author also notes that the comparison of the Anglophone and Francophone Catholic communities reveals the differences in their ways of conceiving the organization of assistance, reflecting the respective size of the two groups and the mentality of the actors involved.
