The Last Invasion of Canada: The Fenian Raids, 1866-1870
|
Abstract |
The Fenians, Irish-born American veterans of the U.S. Civil War, hoped to capture British North America and force the British government to free Ireland of England’s rule. The Canadian militia easily foiled their plan, but the Fenians did attack at Red River in Manitoba, Ridgeway in Ontario, Campobello in New Brunswick, and Eccles Hill and Huntingdon in Quebec.
