Title
The Old Province of Quebec
Abstract
The first or "old" province of Quebec existed from 1760 until the Constitution Act of 1791 divided Quebec territory into Lower and Upper Canada. The author examines the policies of the colonial administrators and administrations during this period, as well as the political demands of the English-speaking merchants of Montreal and Quebec City, the impact of the influx of Loyalists on the Eastern Townships, and the conditions of education, commerce and finance.
