Title
The Early Presbyterianism of Quebec under Dr. Spark
Abstract
The Scottish-born Alexander Spark (1762-1819) is described by the author as the "real founder" of Presbyterianism in Quebec City. Spark first came to Quebec as a teacher in 1780, but returned to Scotland in 1783 to study for the ministry and receive ordination. He returned the following year, became the assistant to the ageing Presbyterian minister, George Henry, and formally replaced Henry in 1795. Spark was instrumental in establishing St. Andrew's Church in Quebec City in 1810.
