Abstract
The British-born John Buckworth Parkin (1816-1875) arrived in Quebec with his parents in September 1819. He attended the school at Chambly, Quebec, run by his father, a Church of England minister. In 1834 he went to England to study law and arts. Parkin was called to the Quebec bar on February 23, 1837. As well as a defence counsel, he served as a circuit court judge, a commissioner of bankruptcy, an acting judge in the superior court, and president of the Quebec bar (1862).
