Title
Communications and Newsmaking Before the Telegraph: The Story of the 1845 Quebec City Fires
Abstract
Two huge fires, one on May 28, 1845, and the other on June 28, 1845, together obliterated two-thirds of Quebec City. The author studies how newspaper editors in Canada and around the world presented and interpreted the story and reaction to these fires. Among the newspapers studied are Montreal’s Gazette and the Quebec Gazette.
