Abstract
The purpose of this study was to trace the growth of the Jewish population in the metropolitan area of Montreal during the period of 100 years from 1851 to 1951, and the changes which have occurred in the geographical distribution of the Jewish population during the period and particularly during the two decades from 1931 to 1951. Much regard was given to the ethnic and religious composition of the surrounding population and the geographic factors which have influenced the growth of the Jewish community in Montreal.
