Abstract
By tracing the immigration of rabbis and "rebbes" – the Yiddish word for a Hasidic rabbi – the author discovered evidence of Hasidic communities in Montreal and other Canadian cities as early as 1884. The author's primary focus is on Montreal between 1914 and 1941.
