Title
Le réseau charitable protestant pour les enfants à Montréal : le choix des institutions
Abstract
Child charities in the nineteenth century were designed to protect, isolate and educate poor children. The author looks at the development and uses of two such Montreal charities -- the Protestant Orphan Asylum, founded in 1822, and the Montreal Ladies' Benevolent Society, founded in 1832, -- to examine why many child workers chose institutional care as the best way to protect and train children and to provide families with temporary child care.
