Abstract
An examination of the efforts of several prominent Canadians, including Sun Life of Canada President T.B. Macaulay (1860-1942), to annex parts of the West Indies to Canada at the turn of the twentieth century. The author discusses the transatlantic discourse that raised larger questions about Canada's national trajectory, imperial organization, and the state of Britain's empire during this period.
