Abstract
Extracts from news stories and editorials from the years 1850-1851 of Montreal's first English-language Catholic newspaper. The True Witness and Catholic Chronicle was founded by George Edward Clerk (1815-1875) in 1851 "to repel the ceaseless attacks of Protestant journals" on Catholicism in Canada. The paper lasted until 1910. The True Witness, as it was popularly known, was strongly associated with Montreal's Irish Catholic community.
