Abstract
A study of the more than fifty itinerant artists who created miniatures and silhouettes in Montreal in the century after the Conquest. The miniature appeared as an art form in Montreal just after 1760, the silhouette near the turn of the nineteenth century. Both were supplanted by photography by 1860. Most of the itinerant artists in Montreal were Americans, followed by British, Irish and Scottish artists.
