Title
Du refus à l’acceptation : L’Église et le sport au Québec
Abstract
The author compares the lack of acceptance of organized sports in French Quebec in the nineteenth century and early twentieth century compared to within English Quebec during this period, and the role of the French-speaking Catholic Church in discouraging organized sports for fear of both their impact on the morality of French Quebec youth who would play these sports away from clerical supervision, and the possibility sports will lead to the Anglicization of French Quebec youth who will begin to use English words associated with various sporting games.
