The Aging of Ethnic Groups in Quebec
Abstract
This study examines the evolving aging patterns of the main ethnic groups in Quebec, and related demographic phenomena. Data are from the 1981 Canadian census. The authors divide the ethnic groups into those that have greater than 10 percent over age 65 (Ukrainians, Jews, Poles, British and Germans), between five and 10 percent (Italians, French and Chinese), and less than 10 percent (Greeks, Portuguese, Haitians and Inuit). They conclude that "changes in demographic phenomena, the decrease in fertility, immigration and ethnic mobility have resulted in the aging of various ethnic groups."
