Les langues du travail dans la région de Montréal en 2001
|
Abstract |
The author investigates a "phenomenon" found in the 2001 census concerning the language spoken at work in Montreal by Allophones from before 1971 to 2001. According to his investigation, among immigrant Allophones in the Montreal metropolitan area, forty percent who arrived before 1971 spoke French most often at work. This percentage increased to fifty-two percent among those who arrived in the 1980s. It dropped back to forty-four percent among those who arrived between 1996 and 2001, which the author concludes means "a return to the 1960s." He investigates the sociolinguistic characteristics of this phenomenon.
