Title
Rock 'n' Radio: When DJs and Rock Music Ruled the Airwaves
Abstract
The author outlines how English Montreal was at the epicentre of the rock radio revolution in Canada from the 1960s to the 1980s, starting with AM stations like CFCF, CFOX and CKGM, and AM's inevitable collision with the power of alternative FM rock radio (like CKGM-FM, later renamed CHOM-FM) in the late 1960s. The author outlines the personal stories of many of the talented DJs from the U.S., Canada and the U.K. that were attracted to the city (Dave Boxer, Dean Hagopian, Doug Pringle, Ralph Lockwood, and Buddy G.) and the social changes that percolated in the background as some of the best rock music ever recorded played over Montreal's airwaves.
