Modernist Poetry in Canada, 1920-1960
Abstract
A critical history of the introduction of modernist poetry to Canada, including by such Montreal poets as Frank Scott, A.J.M. Smith, Leo Kennedy and Leon Edel, the core members of the "Montreal Group" and founders, in 1925, of the McGill Fortnightly Review. While some critics believe that the McGill Fortnightly Review was "the powder keg of Canadian modernism", the author believes its role has been exaggerated.
