Abstract
The autobiographical memoirs by David Lewis (1909-1981), and the struggle to establish a socialist political party in Canada. The Russian-born Lewis grew up in Montreal and attended McGill University. He served as the national secretary of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) from 1936 to 1950, and was instrumental in the creation of the New Democratic Party (NDP) in 1961. Lewis served as the national leader of the NDP from 1971 to 1975.
