Abstract
Norman Slater (1921-2003) was a Montreal architect and artist (photography, sculptor and metals craftsman). A graduate of McGill University, he designed the fountain at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair, the fountain of fire for the gas industry in Alberta, the great staircase at the Governor General's mansion in Ottawa, and contributed to such prestigious projects in Montreal as the metal wall sculptures of Place des Arts, the Château Champlain hotel, Montreal’s Métro network, Expo 67’s amusement park La Ronde, and the Maison Alcan. This book accompanied an exhibition at UQAM's Centre de design of twenty-five of Slater's projects in and around Montreal.
