Abstract
The New York-born John Ogilvie (1724-1774) joined General Jeffery Amherst's army as military chaplain and went to Montreal following Amherst's capture of the town in 1760. Ogilvie stayed in Montreal for four years, becoming the first Minister of the Church of England to serve in the town.
