Title
'Archi-ettes' in Training: The Admission of Women to McGill's School of Architecture
Abstract
McGill was the last university in Canada offering a degree in architecture to allow female students to enroll in the program. In 1939, Catherine Mary Chard Wisnicki was the first woman to be admitted into McGill University's School of Architecture. Between Chard Wisnicki's graduation in 1943 and 1970, thirty-nine women graduated from McGill's architecture program. The author outlines the internal debate within McGill between 1913 and 1939 over whether to admit female students into the School of Architecture.
