Abstract
In 1907, a small group of Black women and men founded what is now Montreal's Union United Church with a treasury of $1.83. The founders came from Montreal and other parts of Canada, the United States and the Caribbean, and laid the foundation for the city's Black community at a time when Black people in Montreal were mostly relegated to working as domestics and as railway porters. In September 2007, the church celebrated its centennial anniversary.
