Title
Dal Mediterraneo all’Atlantico: ricordi di migrazione nella Montréal del secondo dopoguerra
Abstract
The author follows the migratory journey of Maria Buggé from Messina, Sicily, to Quebec after the Second World War. He explores the themes of memory, identity, emigration, and nostalgia that she faced. The abandonment of affection, of friends, of one's homeland and the hope of returning to home one day is what transpires from the story of this woman’s settlement in Quebec. Landing in a foreign land, the author points out that the harsh reality faced by migrants and the difficulty of linguistic understanding did not prevent them from integrating into the host community, but also did not stop them from constantly thinking about a return to their homeland.
