Rewards of Elementary School Principals
Abstract
The job-derived rewards of elementary school principals were investigated by the author using Barnard's typology of incentives as a primary theoretical base. Employing a random sample of 43 Anglophone Protestant elementary principals in Quebec, rewards were found to be both complex and dilemmatic. The author concludes that possible causes for this situation might stem from the changes in the Quebec education system, the existence of a variety of publics and the vagueness the job description, and the competing role expectations.
