Abstract
An examination of the growth of the British mercantile community in the town of Quebec under Governor James Murray. The author argues that the British merchants were not particularly successful in this period because of the interplay of local, imperial and international economic circumstances. The author includes an examination of the economic impact of the British garrison on Quebec.
