Abstract
The population for the City of Montreal in January 1891 is listed as: 211,302 individuals, of which 155,511 were Catholic, 5,863 were Protestant, 1,928 were Jewish, and 28 were Chinese (the latter, presumably, being neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish). The author breaks Montreal's population down by sex, religion and ethnic group. The populations of the other six municipalities are listed separately.

Notes

The author notes: "I appealed to seventeen municipalities in the neighbourhood of Montreal to aid me to take the census of each separately, by subscribing for fifty copies of Lovell's Historic Report of Census of Montreal at 50 cents each. It is distressing to say that only six consented."
