Abstract
The Natural History Society of Montreal was founded in 1827 by a group largely composed of physicians and educators, including John Bethune, Alexander Skakel, William Robertson and Andrew Fernando Holmes. Sir John William Dawson, geologist and Principal of McGill University, was active in the Society from the time of his arrival in Montreal in 1855. The Society's activities lay largely in sponsoring lectures on scientific topics. It was disbanded in 1925.
