Abstract
During the period 1796 and 1840, 3,135,749 acres of Crown land in 34 counties in Lower Canada were distributed to 7,893 people. The author analyzes who received this land, and how much of the land was distributed to "old subjects" (British and American) and to "new subjects" (French Canadians). The "old subjects" received 2,507,549 acres, and the "new subjects" received 628,200 acres.
