Abstract
The booklet describes the St. Patrick's Total Abstinence and Benefit Society, circa 1890, as "the oldest Catholic Temperance Society on this side of the Atlantic." The society was founded by Father Patrick Phelan in 1840. It was closely associated with Montreal's St. Patrick's Parish.
