Title
Victoria Bridge: The 8th Wonder
Abstract
A collection of images depicting the construction and opening of Montreal's Victoria Bridge in 1859. Hailed worldwide in the nineteenth-century as an engineering marvel, it was the first bridge to span the St. Lawrence River, connecting the island of Montreal to the rest of North America. Designed by British engineers for the Grand Trunk Railway, it was built by Montreal's newly-arrived Irish immigrants.
