Abstract
A biographical sketch of Sir James Stuart (1780-1853), a lawyer, politician and judge in Lower Canada who, although a leader of the predominately Francophone Canadian party in the Legislative Assembly from 1811 to 1817, was a supporter of the predominately Anglophone British party for most of his political career. At various times during his career, he also served as Attorney General of Lower Canada and as Chief Justice of the colony.
